RosettaNet Standard
What RosettaNet is
RosettaNet is an open business standard framework created by a consortium of major companies in computing, consumer electronics, semiconductors, telecommunications and logistics. Its purpose is to provide a common business language that aligns supply chain processes across global partners.
The standard is based on XML and goes beyond simple message definitions. It also describes business process interfaces and implementation frameworks. Its best-known building blocks are the PIPs (Partner Interface Processes), which model specific inter-company processes in a reusable way.
Common RosettaNet PIPs
- 3A1 - request quote
- 3A2 - request price and availability
- 3A4 - request purchase order
- 3A5 - query order status
- 3B2 - notify of advance shipment
- 3C3 - notify of invoice
- 3C6 - notify of remittance advice
Where it is useful
- electronics and semiconductor supply chains
- global high-tech partner ecosystems
- multi-step ordering, shipping and status-tracking processes
- integration landscapes that benefit from process-driven XML messaging
What makes it different
RosettaNet is distinctive because it standardizes both the data exchange and the partner process choreography behind it. That makes it particularly valuable in industries where globally aligned order, shipment and status workflows are just as important as the message payload itself.
